Placing B.C. staff say Rogers refuses to return bargaining desk

The United Steelworkers union (USW) says Rogers has continued to sidestep bargaining makes an attempt made by Abbotsford, B.C., technicians on strike since June 19, 2025. The union accused the Toronto-based nationwide telecom of being extra centered on sustaining operations than on the considerations of its staff.

“We’re extremely disillusioned that Rogers would relatively exploit a possible loophole in Canada’s new federal anti-scab laws relatively than negotiate in good religion,” mentioned Michael Phillips, USW Native 1944 President.

As an alternative of responding to placing staff, Rogers has introduced in out-of-province administration workers to fill positions left vacant by the strike.

“The regulation was designed to guard staff’ proper to strike and to not be undermined by firms bringing in managers from different areas,” Phillips mentioned.

The USW is asking Rogers to return to the bargaining desk. The USW says the strikes have been unjust and underhanded and threat additional damaging the corporate’s fame with clients and communities.
