Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi responded on 16 July to United States President Donald Trump’s current feedback expressing concern over the potential affect of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on Egypt’s water provide. Trump’s assertion got here after a 14 July assembly on the White Home with NATO Secretary Basic Mark Rutte.

“If I’m Egypt, I wish to have water within the Nile, and we’re engaged on that,” Trump said throughout the assembly, emphasizing Egypt’s heavy dependence on the Nile River, which offers about 97 % of the nation’s water.

Calling the Nile “an important supply of revenue and life,” Trump added, “to take that away is fairly unimaginable. However we predict we’re going to have that solved in a short time.”

Trump has expressed confidence that the long-running dispute between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia may quickly be resolved.

President Al-Sisi posted on his official Fb web page, welcoming the remarks by Trump, viewing them as a mirrored image of the US’ seriousness beneath his management in working to resolve conflicts and finish wars.

The assertion expressed confidence in Trump’s capacity to handle advanced international challenges and to advertise peace, stability, and safety internationally, together with in Ukraine, the Palestinian territories, and Africa.

Al-Sisi said that Egypt appreciates President Trump’s dedication to achieve a good settlement that safeguards the pursuits of all events concerned within the dispute over the Ethiopian dam, and for his recognition of the Nile’s important significance to Egypt as a supply of life.

For nearly ten years, Egypt and Sudan have urged Ethiopia to decide to a legally binding settlement on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, in search of to guard their water rights. To this point, these efforts have did not yield an settlement.
