Chery Car is transferring into the fast-growing electrical pickup truck phase.

On January 27, Chery formally introduced its entry into the brand new power pickup market, launching the R08 EV, the primary all-electric pickup below its RELY model. The mannequin is priced between RMB 127,800 and 158,800 (roughly USD 17,800–22,100).

Chery’s timing coincides with a pivotal second for China’s new power pickup market, which is seeing fast development alongside intensifying competitors.

In accordance with knowledge from the China Passenger Automotive Affiliation (CPCA), cumulative gross sales of recent power pickups reached 73,000 items in 2025, up 243% yr over yr, considerably outpacing development within the general pickup market. Regardless of the market’s development potential, China’s home pickup sector already exhibits a sample of “one dominant participant and a number of other sturdy contenders.” Nice Wall Motor controls almost half of the home retail market, whereas conventional producers similar to JMC and Zhengzhou Nissan preserve strong positions. As electrification accelerates, manufacturers like BYD are additionally getting ready to introduce new power pickups in China, additional intensifying competitors.

“The penetration charge of pure electrical pickups surpassed 9% in 2025, signaling a transition from early adoption to a brand new part pushed by product maturity and person acceptance,” Zhang stated. He expects the brand new power pickup market to enter a part of large-scale growth in 2026.
