AMD lately teamed up with overclockers Invoice Alverson and Allen ‘Splave’ Golibersuch to go after the GPU frequency file, and so they’ve shared their success in a latest video. In it, they pushed an RX 9060 XT to its limits with liquid nitrogen and enhanced energy supply, hitting an totally insane 4.769GHz. That is not only a new file; it demolishes the outdated one and places AMD inside spitting distance of the 5GHz threshold that might have appeared unattainable only a era or two in the past.

Excessive GPU overclocking has made a giant comeback with this era of graphics playing cards. That is partly as a result of neither AMD nor Nvidia is releasing new fashions whereas they attempt to fill their overbought orders for AI information facilities, and partly as a result of this newest batch of GPUs is power-hungry monsters. Though the 9060 XT is an entry-level GPU focusing on 1080p and 1440p play, it might nonetheless deal with loads of juice if you happen to maintain it cool sufficient.

The RX 9060 XT has an ordinary increase clock of three.13GHz, so the overclockers needed to take it fairly far to interrupt the prevailing file of 4.02GHz on a discrete GPU. Within the video, Splave stated he anticipated them to hit 4.4 and even 4.5GHz, so attaining a brand new file a number of hundred MHz larger is an actual win.

Sadly, the overclockers do not give us a full breakdown of their settings and the tweaks they made to attain this file, however liquid nitrogen is completely concerned, and the playing cards had been personalized with liquid metallic TIM and customized cooling pots.

AMD made it clear, although, that it plans to interrupt extra data in 2026. It appears solely honest to focus on 5GHz subsequent, proper?
