Jumpstart Fellowship Cohort 3 Celebration

MassRobotics hosted a celebration for the Jumpstart Fellowship Program’s third cohort of highschool ladies.  The purpose of this system is to encourage and empower numerous highschool ladies to pursue careers in robotics and promote the variety of the robotics workforce by giving them a strong basis of technical expertise in addition to mentors {and professional} community to present them the boldness and assist they should pursue a profession within the tech discipline.  This system features a paid summer time internship at a robotics firm the place the scholars can use their realized expertise in real-world purposes and significant work.

This 12 months’s cohort included college students from Quincy Excessive College, Revere Excessive College and Cambridge Rindge & Latin College.

A number of ecosystem collaborators hosted college students for website visits together with UMass Lowell NERVE Middle (with a gripper workshop), Lightspeed Manufacturing, Boston Dynamics, Odeh Engineering, GreenSight, Duckietown and MaglevAero. 

This 12 months we launched weekly “Fireplace Chats” which have been scholar lead.  This was really a spotlight and inspiration, with ladies of all ages, backgrounds, levels and positions, sharing their journeys and challenges by way of their training and employment experiences.  That they had the group each laughing and in tears as they spoke about private struggles – whereas one most important theme emerged…sure, it’s troublesome, however you’re not alone!  The mentors offered steerage, methods and survival suggestions for challenges they’ve confronted.  The mentors additionally helped construct a community and the scholars have a gaggle they’ll name on once they want recommendation or encouragement.

This celebration marked the completion of the curriculum portion of this system and college students have been awarded medals of completion and stipends for finishing the session.  It was a deal with to have a number of former Jumpstarters in attendance from Cohort 1 & 2!
