Fifteen Nigerian journalists, together with TechCabal’s Frank Eleanya, have been chosen for the 2025/2026 Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Journalism Fellowship, an initiative designed to strengthen public understanding of digital governance and innovation throughout Africa.

The 15 fellows, drawn from 14 media retailers throughout print, broadcast, and on-line platforms, had been chosen after a rigorous choice course of that reviewed practically 200 purposes and shortlisted 45 candidates. The ultimate cohort encompasses a balanced mixture of eight males and 7 females, reflecting gender inclusion in media capability growth.

Organised by the Media Basis for West Africa (MFWA) in partnership with Co-Develop, the fellowship goals to advertise media-driven consciousness, accountability, and participation within the evolution of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Digital Public Items (DPGs). By means of hands-on coaching, editorial mentorship, and entry to a continental data hub, members will acquire the instruments to supply high-quality journalism on digital id, funds, knowledge alternate, and interoperability techniques shaping Africa’s digital future.

Every fellow will obtain a month-to-month stipend of $250 for the primary three months, whereas their newsrooms shall be supported with $1,000 beneath a DPI/DPG Newsroom Partnership Settlement. Fellows who excel shall be eligible for investigative reporting grants and worldwide journey alternatives to world DPI convenings.

Working from October 31, 2025, to April 30, 2026, the six-month fellowship would require members to publish no less than six unique tales exploring inclusive and accountable digital infrastructure. Graduates shall be awarded Certificates of Honour recognising their position in advancing transparency and governance in Africa’s digital transformation.

In accordance with MFWA’s Government Director, Sulemana Braimah, the fellowship is a “strategic funding in fostering knowledgeable and impartial media narratives” round DPI and DPG developments.
