Kenya’s info ministry plans to spend KES 100 million ($775,193) yearly on content material creators and influencers to amplify authorities speaking factors throughout social media platforms, together with X, Fb, and Instagram, because it strikes to restore its bruised public picture forward of the 2027 normal elections.

The technique targets 10 macro-influencers and 20 micro-influencers, who could be paid quarterly retainers of KES 100,000 ($775) and KES 50,000 ($387.6), respectively, to help the marketing campaign. Macro-influencers usually command audiences of over 100,000 followers, some reaching into the thousands and thousands, whereas micro-influencers have followings of between 10,000 and 100,000.

It follows nationwide anti-government protests in June 2024 and June 2025, which, in keeping with rights teams, resulted in over 100 deaths.

The 2024 and 2025 protests have been largely mobilised over months on social media—particularly X and TikTok—indicating the platforms’ rising political energy.
